Carolina Silva, PhD shared with the club the mission, accomplishments, and goals of ScholarshipA-Z. ScholarshipA-Z is a Tucson-based immigrant youth-led organization that works to make higher education accessable to all students reguardless of immigration status.
Carolina shared her own story as an undocumented youth graduating from a Tucson area high school struggling to accumulate the finances to attend college. She now leads these efforts as the executive director of the organization.
Although the leadership tends to be younger, there is room for more “seasoned” volunteers. Opportunities exisit for reviewers to support undocumented high school youth in editing their scholarship essays by contacting Jose – Joseperez@scholarshipsaz.org for more information or by joining ScholarshipA-Z’s development committee, a group of youth, alumni, and community members supporting SA-Z donor recruitment and retention. Contact Darlo – darlo@scholarshipaz.org for details.
