The speakers for the meeting were from the group of eight CDO students our club sponsored at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program recently held in Prescott.
The students shared their thoughts and impressions, bullet points below, followed by a Q&A about RYLA, the students’ future plans, and
other impressions from their experience.
It took me out of my comfort zone and cause me to work there
Learning to interact with people you haven’t met before
Find out more about my learning style and the styles of others
Dealing with being away from my mobile device for the whole time
I wasn’t the only shy one there, they all started somewhat shy and learned to get comfortable working with others
Adapting to new situations, people, and tasks
Learning to cooperate as a group to complete a given task
Making new friends
Creating a network of other students and new friends that can be contacted for ideas and thoughts
Learning how to be a better leader
Exchanging ideas with peers
Learning to be more comfortable with public speaking
The power of working towards a common goal, as a group
Those in attendance commented on being impressed with what the students shared, thanks for the students’ attendance at RYLA, impressed with the quality of the students as future leaders, and that they represent hope for the future,
Speaking of those in attendance, members, visitors, and students created a full room. However, there were still empty chairs – come join us.
