Meeting Speaker Spotlight

Jane Shurtleff, recent New Member and already wearer of several “Hats”

Jane presented her bio, from Santa Monica/San Diego through numerous stops ending in Oro Valley. While Jane was growing up in San Diego her father was part of the Apollo project.
Husband David and Jane have a daughter and two sons, and two grandchildren.
Out of college she worked at a bookstore and was given a free hand operating the store, feeding Jane’s wish to own a bookstore. Her least pleasant experience in retail bookselling was as a floor manager at a Barnes & Noble in downtown Boston.
Jane’s next career move was into the tech/computer/digital world, especially technical writing. In that profession she has worked for several companies with notable names and has served on numerous professional and advisory boards.
She co-founded a marketing/PR consultancy in Boston called Market Recognition, serving many startups in different technologies. Retiring at the end of 2022, she finished by working for CXO, a marketing/branding consultancy for 8 years.
Over the years Jane has been a very active as a volunteer with many groups, including Habitat for Humanity. She has served on their boards and written grants, as well as hands on.
Jane enjoys golf, loves pickleball, and with David co-leads a bicycle group called Shift Happens.
We are happy to have Jane Shurtleff as an active new member.
Club Roundup
  • Our District 5500 Conference of Clubs is on October 6&7, 2023 at Casino Del Sol Hotel & Resort in Tucson. You can see lots of information about the CoC HERE, including a schedule of presenters and events, as well as how to register.
  • The Dictionary Project distribution is targeted for mid-September. A discussion was held about adding the Helen Keeling School. Adding Keeling to our distribution was received positively. Contact Karen Woodford to participate. Get activity contest points.
  • DG Don Jorgenson is leading a Fellowship Exchange to India in February. More information HERE.
  • After her bio presentation Jane outlined a pilot project with Edge High School. It would be in the area of writing, especially documents such as cover letters and/or scholarship essays. Briefly it would consist of brainstorming with the student about material for the document, reviewing the draft, and working to create a good finished product.
  • No meeting August 31, 2023. Social at The Keg that evening at 5PM.

Note from Amos: I will try and keep up as best I can while using Zoom. Also, if you are thinking about donating for the recovery on Maui, a good choice is the D5000 Foundation. There is a message and link on our D5500 website, in the center column. It is a good way to put money where it will be used for the benefit of all concerned.
