Saad Allawi will present “Iraq: A Desert Mirage” on August 17 at 6:30pm at St. Andrew’s Church on Paseo Del Norte. He will cover history, geography and demographics of the country within the context of the Islamic world. He will review the recommendations he made to the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in 2004 and the implication of those. Finally, he will discuss alternatives for solving the current problem - engaging the audience in what will likely be an informative and interesting discussion. Pizza will be available for $5. It covers some of the unique problems that engineers had to solve to assure a quality product. The take away of the talk is that successful completion of a major achievement such as the manned mission to the moon is the culmination of resolving many small challenges along the way. |

Trader Joe's has agreed to donate surplus food to the food bank at IMPACT of Southern Arizona on a WEEKLY basis! Barbara & Jeff McClure need help every Saturday morning from 8:00-10:00 am to pick up the food at Trader Joe's (Oracle & Magee) and take it to IMPACT's offices in Catalina. Barbara & Jeff are providing the vehicle and training on what to do.
To volunteer, sign up for any Saturday, beginning in November. You can make this a family activity... kids are welcome to help

A great event for the alumni of the three Arizona University System Business Schools, to connect with friends and meet new ones.The event will be held at the Oro Valley Country Club. The short program will feature Professor Lisa Ordóñez Vice Dean & The McClelland Professor who will present a fascinating topic - Unintended Consequences of Organizational Goal Setting. Topic Overview Academic research and managerial practice indicates that goal setting helps individuals with challenging, specific goals work harder, persist longer, and achieve better performance outcomes than when told to “do your best.” However, there is a grow set of research indicating that goals can lead to unintended consequences such as unethical behavior.
